PCHS Winter Sports 12-13

It's hard to imagine, but winter sports at Pike Central for the 2012-13 school year is complete.  With only spring sports remaining the school year is flying.
Probably our most "successful" program this winter was once again boys swimming.  For the second year in a row the boys team won the PAC title, then finished 4th in the sectional and set a new 200 free relay record in time!  For Charger Athletics, it was the first time since the 1994-95 season that the boys team won back-to-back PAC Championships.  Brady Like, C.J. Popp, Paul Heldring and Maverick Henson set a new record in the free relay and head coach Jason McKinney was named "Coach-of-the-Year" at the swimming sectional!  Our girls team also was very competitive and return all swimmers next season.
Wrestling also had a really good winter.  The team finished 3rd in the PAC Championship and had three wrestlers qualify for the regional Devin Phillips, Mason Roberson and Dalton Miller, with Miller also qualifying for semi-state.  Like the girls swim team, all of these wrestlers will be returning next season, they had no seniors.
Boys and girls basketball both concluded their season as well.  Despite suffering injuries throughout the season, the girls team won four games.  This group will lose some valuable leadership, losing three senior starters.  Likewise the boys team will lose four players, all of whom started at various times throughout the season.  The boys team won three games-still an improvement from the year before when they won only once.  Both squads will have an influx of new players next season and the future is bright for both teams.
We would like to thanks the players (especially the seniors), the parents, the community, the cheerleaders and of course the coaches for allof their hard work throughout the season and good luck next year!
