It is incredible how quickly times flies, probably in my case from getting older. However, the 2012-13 school year is flying by fast and winter sports are in full swing here at Pike Central.
Jason McKinney has another strong group of swimmers on both his girls and boys teams. The results thus far have been favorable. Though "JK" would really like a few more swimmers, he still feels like both groups can and will compete in the conference race in late January.
First year head basketball coach John Mokris has the Charger boys playing hard, but with mixed results thus far. Pike Central always plays a very difficult schedule and with games against Barr Reeve, Princeton and PAC foe Southridge, things have been tough going. The boys will have time to re-group at Christmas time and be prepared to do battle in the 2nd half of the season. Both the JV and freshmen teams have showed great promise, along with the middle school program. Keep your fingers crossed that given time, the program can get turned around.
Billy Hewig once again has a good group of wrestlers out; however, injuries have been a big bug-a-boo for the program. The Chargers will be very competitive once the injury bug passes. PC does have a wrestler ranked 12th in the state in Dalton Miller. January will be an important month with both the conference tournament and the sectional.
Randy Graham lead the Lady Charger Basketball team again this season and, like the boys, the season has been one of mixed results. The ladies stand at 2-6 for the season (as does the JV team). They also have the holiday season to get things worked out, especially with the brunt of the season coming in January.
On another front, many people have complained about viewing the PCHS Website, looking for scheduled athletic events. I don't blame you if you've been angered by the lack of crediblility of the site. Our school has had some issues with the group that publish the schedules on a different website. Thanks to our tech people (most notably Beth McMillen and Beth Bohnert), this has now been worked out. If at anytime you want the days schedules (or any PCHS activities), just go to the home page and on the left, scroll down to "activities" and it will post the day's events, including all school and sports. We are very sorry for any inconvenience the past has caused, but these ladies worked very hard to make this right.
Other than that, that's for viewing the blog and GO PC! (Happy Holidays)

Are we really here...again??
I hope you noticed the title of this particular blog, because it never felt like I really left at all this summer, but that's the way it goes. It's another new school year and PCHS Athletics has lots of changes.
We have a new high school volleyball coach, Marla Stemle. Marla is a familiar name around here because she played and coached in the PCSC system for several years now. Marla has served as the 8th grade coach for several years and she at one time helped with the high school softball program. Bonnie Stone is her JV coach. Bonnie of course is also a very familiar name since she just graduated in 2010. She starred in volleyball and track while attending Pike Central and she just completed her second year at Vincennes University and played volleyball with the Trailblazers.
We also have a new high school cheerleader coach.named Tia Rogers, who used to be Tia Wornica. Tia was a cheerleader in high school for the Chargers. Her new assistant cheer coach is Elisha Foster. We're very glad to have both of these young ladies aboard!
With head coaching jobs open in both high school boys track and high school girls softball, PCHS will have some additional changes to come in the following months-stay tuned!.
Here's hoping the 2012-13 school year will be successful in academics and athletics. Good luck to all our teams, coaches, parents and fans. Go PC!

Winter Sports Summary
Is Pike Central Winter Sports over with...already?? Yes it is and it went very quickly. Our boys and girls basketball programs suffered through a tough winter with the girls winning just three games and the boys one, but both junior varsity squads played really well, in fact the boys junior varsity team finished with eleven wins. With a really good group returning next year for both the boys and girls teams, things are looking up!
Wrestling had a pretty good winter with six wrestlers advancing to the regional level and one, Dalton Miller, advanced to the semi-state level. This is also a very young squad, so hopefully things are looking up for PC Wrestling as well!
Boys and girls swimming had a fabulous winter. The boys team are PAC Champs!! Two relay teams, plus Christian Wilson and Beau Johnson had first place finishes in the conference meet, while the girls despite having only eight swimmers finished a respectable 4th. The boys team went on to finish 3rd in the sectional and Christian Wilson advanced to the regional in diving! The girls finished 8th in the sectional and had an Academic All-State swimmer in Taylor Wornica! Congrats to coaches J.K. McKinney and Mike Bohnert for a great season. By the way, the Pike Central Middle School boys also won the middle school PAC just last week! Things are really looking up with our swimming program.
PC Spring Sports begin this week with girls softball while the rest of the sports will begin the first week of April. Wes Fink takes over our baseball program, while former PC athletes Brad Ridao (baseball), Bonnie Stone (track) and Eric Knight (track) return to our school to assist our head coaches. Pole Vault is back at PCHS this spring with our track program.
Congrats to all of our winter sports student-athletes, coaches and parents and good luck with all of our spring sports!

Winter Sports 2011-12
Wow, what a great winter sports season it's been-so far here at Pike Central! Congratulations to the Pike Central Boys Swimming/Diving team for capturing the PAC Championship on Saturday, January 21. It's the first conference swimming championship for the school since 1996. Senior Beau Johnson led the way with two first place finishes in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyle, while Christian Wilson won first in the one meter diving. We also had victories in the 200-yard medley relay (Ethan Rolens, Alex Keepes, Brandon Bohnert and Maverick Henson), and the 400-yard medley relay (Beau Johnson, C.J. Popp, Ethan Rolens and Brandon Bohnert). The Chargers finished 128 points ahead of the 2nd place team!! Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff. Our girls team also faired well, finishing 4th in the conference, despite having only 9 swimmers! Great job ladies!
Meanwhile, our wrestling team did very well in the recent sectional at Southridge. Six wrestlers advanced to the regional round at Jeffersonville, Indiana on Saturday, February 4. Those advancing include: Austin Bolin, Nick Baker, Dakota Dickerson, A.J. Ronk, Cody Gadsberry and Dalton Miller. Good luck boys and coaches; a job well done! The team finished 4th overall in sectional competition.
Tournament time is coming up in basketball. Our Lady Chargers will play in the Jasper Sectional, February 7-11, while the boys play February 28-March 3 at Washington. Good luck to both teams.
One other athletic note; Senior J.J. Howald was recently selected to the Region 9 football all-star team. Congrats go to J.J.
It has been a very busy winter sports season and many of our spring coaches are beginning to gear up for their seasons. Good luck and continued success to all of our sports!
